Oh, summer, how I adore you, and yet get completely freaked out about there being so much I could do. I’ve been toying with the idea of posting only slideshows/photo dumps for the next few months because I have absolutely no inspiration to write given that I’m busy with either work, activities, or planning activities. Work hard, play hard, etcetera etcetera. Plus LAST summer I completely forgot to post any of my weekend activities due to a lack of time, and instead focused on travel. So really “Not Bored NY” kind of devolved into ‘Not Bored Elsewhere’ until I took a week off around Christmas/New Year’s and did a few photo dumps from the summer of 2015.
Anyway, here’s my deal: I’m going to write when I actually feel like it, otherwise, enjoy the photos. *Some cliche about them being equivalent to a decent amount of words*
I really should say a little something about this trip to Martha’s Vineyard though. I’m sure a little information would be welcome if you’re interested in visiting. So, we took a Steamship Authority ferry from Woods Hole and arrived at Vineyard Haven rather early to rent some bikes (the rental store is within walking distance from the ferry dropoff point). They will also deliver bikes to you if that’s something you’re interested in. You will pass by Falmouth on your way to Woods Hole, so if I were you and had some time and money to spare I would spend a day and night there to go around. The place is adorable and they have a decent nightlife, judging from when we passed by there on our way home from Martha’s Vineyard.
We had brunch at Linda Jean’s in Oak Bluffs (it was only ok), and some pretty great ice cream in the same area. (I forget what the place is called but it also is a chocolatier as much as it is an ice cream parlor.) Then we biked to Edgartown, passing by Ocean Park along the way. Both are adorable and you wouldn’t want to miss them. Then it was time for lunch. What? Eating again? Believe me that bike ride was long, hot, and exhausting, although the scenery more than made up for it. Lunch at Atlantic Fish & Chophouse was again, only ok. Mostly because I’m used to the amazing banh mis at Num Pang in the city, and what I had paled in comparison. I probably should have ordered steak or fish. Michael’s grilled cheese and soup were pretty good though, and we had a decent view.
After lunch we biked around Edgartown some more, and had to concede that we did not have time to bike all the way to the Aquinnah Cliffs. So instead we headed back to Vineyard Haven and had coffee/dinner at Black Dog Cafe and Black Dog Tavern. The coffee I had (which I sadly forgot to take a photo of due to huffing and puffing from all that bike riding) was FANTASTIC. It was called a Shenandoah Sunrise – white chocolate and hazelnut syrups combined with double shot espresso over foamed milk. If you’re craving a decadent buzz this will be right up your alley. Then we had a lovely dinner at Black Dog Tavern, where the theme was adorable and not surprising in the least (boats, boats, boats!), and had an amazing rack of ribs. After which it was time to say goodbye to Martha’s Vineyard. Farewell, charming little island!
